As members of the tea party movement, we should all be concerned with the latest attempt by the progressive left to once again take away the freedoms which we are guaranteed by the supreme law of the land, the US Constitution. In Texas, there is a case soon to go before the US Court of Appeals, seeking to affirm an elementary school’s contention that first graders are not protected by the first amendment.
The case involves several instances in a first grade class, one was a student passing out candy canes with the word “Jesus” imprinted on them, the second was another student distributing pencils which had a slogan on them with the word “God” on them and the third was when the school refused to let the whole class write “Merry Christmas” on cards they were sending to soldiers serving overseas. Anyone who considers themselves an American should be outraged by this.
The First Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press .“ This includes first grade students as well as everyone else. But this isn’t about free speech; instead it is about the secular progressives trying to do two things. First they are trying to remove religion from our lives, using the bogus “separation of church and state” argument. And second, it is another attempt to indoctrinate our children.
This won’t stop at the first grade level, it will be extended to the second grade then the middle schools and finally all the way to the high school level. After all if we indoctrinate the children early enough, by the time they are adults they will already be programmed to believe only what the government wants them to believe. Read your history, any fascist, socialist or communist society starts the same way. Control what people can see, read, write and hear and you will control the people.
This is what we, as believers in the tea party movement have to stop. Every day our freedoms and constitutional rights are attacked, and many of us sit back and take it. Whether it is in the name of protecting us from terrorism or eating healthy, it doesn’t matter; our freedoms are eroded bit by bit. If we don’t fight it now, very soon there will be nothing left for us to fight.
