Agenda 21: Conspiracy Theory or Real Threat?

Americans are so focused on Congress and Obama at the federal level of government right now that most are overlooking the socialism creeping in at the local level through Agenda 21. It is easy to overlook local government since people are saturated with too much information in the internet age. Compounding this is the fact that Agenda 21 is a dull topic, and it becomes understandable how it has been able to fly mostly under the radar since 1992, slowly working its way into our cities and counties.

Agenda 21, which reportedly means an agenda for the 21st century, is a United Nations program launched in 1992 for the vague purpose of achieving global “sustainable development.” Congress never approved Agenda 21, although Presidents Obama, Clinton and George H.W. Bush have all signed Executive Orders implementing it. 178 other world leaders agreed to it in 1992 at the Rio Summit. Since then, the U.N. has mostly bypassed national governments, using Agenda 21’s International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (“ICLEI”) to make agreements directly with local governments. ICLEI’s U.S. presence has grown to include agreements with over 600 cities, towns and counties here, which are now copying the land use plans prescribed in Agenda 21.

Some conservatives are trying to attract attention to Agenda 21 by labeling it a secret conspiracy to create a one world government. While that will wake some people up, it will turn off others. It does not matter whether it is a conspiracy or not. There are people on the left side of the political spectrum – who may even believe they have good intentions – working together to spread their vision for society worldwide. Whether they meet in dark rooms or openly in public meetings is irrelevant; they are having great success convincing local governments in the U.S. to adopt their socialist and extreme environmentalist programs under the guise of feel-good buzz words. Left wing billionaire George Soros’s Open Society has provided $2,147,415 to ICLEI. Van Jones’ Green for All and the Tides Foundations’ Apollo Alliance are also reportedly ICLEI contributors.

Agenda 21 ostensibly seeks to promote “sustainability” (the latest revisionist word for “environmentalism,” since Americans have learned too many negative things about environmentalism). “Sustainability” is an amorphous concept that can be interpreted to an extreme degree that would regulate and restrict many parts of our lives. When will the level of carbon emissions be low enough? How much must we reduce our consumption of fossil fuels? Preserving the environment is a dubious science, and what steps are really necessary to protect the environment are anyone’s guess.

Agenda 21 promotes European socialist goals that will erode our freedoms and liberties. Most of its vague, lofty sounding phrases cause the average person’s eyes to glaze over, making it easier to sneak into our communities. The environmentalist goals include atmospheric protection, combating pollution, protecting fragile environments, and conserving biological diversity. Agenda 21 goes well beyond environmentalism. Other broad goals include combating poverty, changing consumption patterns, promoting health, and reducing private property ownership, single-family homes, private car ownership, and privately owned farms. It seeks to cram people into small livable areas and institute population control. There is a plan for “social justice” that will redistribute wealth.

Once these vague, overly broad goals are adopted, they are being interpreted to allow massive amounts of new, overreaching regulations. Joyce Morrison from Eco-logic Powerhouse says Agenda 21 is so broad it will affect the way we “live, eat, learn and communicate.” Berit Kjos, author of Brave New Schools, warns that Agenda 21 “regulation would severely limit water, electricity, and transportation – even deny human access to our most treasured wilderness areas, it would monitor all lands and people. No one would be free from the watchful eye of the new global tracking and information system.” Even one of the authors of Agenda 21 has admitted that it “…calls for specific changes in the activities of all people…” These steps are already being enacted little by little at the local levels.

Since the U.S. is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and uses more energy than any other country, it stands to lose the most from environmental regulations. The goal of “sustainability,” which comes down to using government to heavy-handedly accomplish vague goals of caring for the earth, goes contrary to our free market capitalism. Even more unfair, struggling third world countries and communist countries that cannot financially afford to comply with the onerous environmental regulations will continue their high levels of fossil fuel consumption, and the U.S. will be forced by U.N. regulators to conserve even more to make up for those countries.

Obama signed Executive Order 13575 earlier this month, establishing a “White House Rural Council” prescribed by Agenda 21. The amount of government Obama has directed to administer this is staggering. Obama committed thousands of federal employees in 25 federal agencies to promote sustainability in rural areas, completely bypassing Congressional approval. Some of these agencies are unrelated to rural areas. The agencies will entice local communities into adopting Agenda 21 programs by providing them millions of dollars in grants. Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh writing for Canada Free Press analyzed the order and wrote, “it establishes unchecked federal control into rural America in education, food supply, land use, water use, recreation, property, energy, and the lives of 16% of the U.S. population.”

Tea party groups, talk show host Glenn Beck, and organizations like Freedom AdvocatesCatholic Investigative Agency and Sovereignty International are working hard to expose Agenda 21, but there is only so much a few can do. Some local governments have become aware of what Agenda 21 is really about and dropped out of ICLEI this year. The Carroll County Board of Commissioners, Montgomery County in Pennsylvania and the city of Edmond, Oklahoma have all withdrawn their participation.

It will be difficult to defeat Agenda 21 because it requires changing the attitudes of over 600 separate localities across the U.S. Ideally, a conservative president could roll back the executive orders implementing it, but considering Republican President H.W. Bush was a disappointment in this area that may be too much to hope for. If Republicans take over Congress they could challenge the huge power grab Obama made with Executive Order 13575 and ban Agenda 21 in the U.S. For now, local activists must champion this issue, much like Texans for Accountable Government has done, educating local boards and commissions and serving on them. Agenda 21 is a tedious and overwhelming topic, and until it can be explained in an easy-to-understand way that interests the average American, it will be tough to beat back.

Thank you, Rachel, for Agenda 21: Conspiracy Theory or Real Threat?

You describe it very well. Please continue exposing it, since it definitely spells the end of America.

I have been studying it for a long time. It is not a conspiracy theory but it is definitely a conspiracy.

It is the biggest story of all time.

I have tried to get several local and national news folks to focus on Agenda 21 for some time now. Glenn Beck finally did 18 minutes on it on June 15 followed by Fox Business reporter, Eric Bolling, doing a segment with guests a week later.

This is the way I have tried to explain it:

Since 1976, the Earthers have been planning world government through centrist land management. It is communist, fascist, socialism all rolled into one approach to world governance, without sovereignty, private rights or religion and it is well under way.

I first perked up my ears when I heard Ronald Reagan give speeches and pressers calling for the amalgamation of the entire Western Hemisphere into one nation in order to stave off the threat from the European Economic Community and the Asian-Pacific rim financial cabal.

The very real cornerstone of the world government plan is United Nations Agenda 21, signed by George H. W. Bush in 1992 at the UN's Earth Summit in Rio and actively supported by every President and Congress since. Bush actually described it to us from the oval office on January 16, 1991, saying we would follow the principles set down in the UN charter, that it was a "Big Deal" and that it "will succeed." He called it the "New World Order." Clinton, shortly after twisting democrats arms to pass Bush's GATT and NAFTA legislation, appointed Al Gore to be director of the President's Council on Sustainable Development. George W. Bush signed Executive Order (EO) 13423, “Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management,” which furthered Agenda 21. Obama, his cabinet and advisory czars are all on board with it as well.

Anthropogenic impact on the planet, now termed "Climate Change", is the foundation of Agenda 21. Earth worship (Gaia) is all but the official religion of the UN today. Seriously. Just do a search on Maurice Strong, director of the Rio Earth Summit, his Earth Charter initiative, with his pal, Mikhail Gorbachev of Green Cross International. It's all an effort to establish Earth Mother as the center of a post-Christian belief system. These folks are dead serious and very well connected.

If you study the history of Agenda 21 and the comments of its supporters, it is all about "Sustainable Consumption and Production" to save the planet, which can only occur through surrender of sovereignty and freedoms in exchange for collectivist communism, social justice, redistribution of wealth, relinquishment of private property rights, population reduction and micro management of every phase of human existence.

The perpetrators of Agenda 21 describe private property as follows:

“Land…cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership is also a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth, therefore it contributes to social injustice.” United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat I), held in Vancouver, May 31 – June 11, 1976.

“Private land use decisions are often driven by strong economic incentives that result in several ecological and aesthetic consequences…The key to overcoming it is through public policy…” Report from the President’s Council on Sustainable Development, page 112.

“Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class – involving high meat intake, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work air conditioning, and suburban housing are not sustainable.” Maurice Strong, Secretary General of the UN’s Earth Summit, 1992.

The UN-subgroup, ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives), currently collects dues from local governments to assist them in implementing Agenda 21 through Hegelian dialectic and rule by "consensus". But they also receive millions in federal taxpayer dollar grants. So the taxpayers are paying double to effectively end America. Some communities have already rebelled against and forced their local governments to abandon ICLEI and Agenda 21 plans, ordinances and the like. However over 600 U.S cities and counties are dues paying members.

On June 9, 2011, President Obama signed another Executive Order for a Rural Council, yet another nail in the American coffin. Agenda 21 marches on.

If you want to connect the dots, study Agenda 21. It is well laid out at the UN website. The MSM won't tell us about it because it is the end of America and it won't sell well if it was exposed. It is certainly real and is being actively implemented worldwide. If you care to know, just read it.

The real ominous part of Agenda 21 can be found in it's companion document, The Biodiversity Convention Treaty, which calls for population control. The U.S. came within an hour of ratifying it but it is being implemented by fiat anyway.

I have read some of the scientific papers submitted to the various UN committees that came up with the Treaty. The scientists have concluded that we have polluted the Earth to such an extent, that we are past the point of no return. The only conceivable way to save the Earth, and thus the human species, is to severely cull the species. They say that at the current rate of population growth and resource consumption, 7 billion people cannot be sustained. The solution is to concurrently severely reduce energy, food, water, etc., consumption, halt CO2 emissions, and drastically reduce the population by two-thirds. Slashing Medicare by 1/2 trillion dollars when 77 million Baby Boomers are about to sign up for it is a step in the genocide direction consistent with Agenda 21.

See Henry Lamb's summary: Watson and Heywood, Convention on Biological Diversity at http://www.freedom.org/reports/gba10.htm

Ted Turner and Bill Gates and his Margaret Sanger worshipping father, who runs the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, are huge, (as in billions of dollars) contributors to UN population control/reduction programs and initiatives. George Soros has his hand thoroughly involved as well.

Who will be the lucky livestock to survive the butcher's cleaver?

    Ominous.

The problem with Agenda 21 is that it is both a Republican and Democrat agenda. They're all behind it. While it is hidden from the American public, the rest of the world is well into it. Do a Google alert on Agenda 21 and you will be flooded with all sorts of reports from government bodies around the world working hard to implement Agenda 21.

Study Agenda 21. Go to http://www.freedomadvocates.org/ for an in depth treatment of it. The American Policy Center has a short summary called Agenda 21 In One Easy Lesson here: http://americanpolicy.org/sustainable-development….

    Connect the dots and…

    Good luck, comrades.

You say that Agenda 21 will be a "world government", but isn't that what all Christians are waiting for. Once it is in place, the return of Jesus won't be far behind so why are you fighting against it. If you don't love Jesus, then take your posts to some commie site and don't post here.

Our job here on earth AS Christianis to spread te GOOD NEWS, John 3:16, telling those who do not know Christ, that He died for ALL our sins, and if they will believe in Him, they too can have everlasting life.
If we allow the world government to happen in a hurry, then we'll not have time to keep spreading the word, GOD's word and there will be people that will go to hell that could have went to Heaven if WE Christians would have had the freedom to gather more people's souls for Him and to Him. That would be selfish of us not to care and just let Agenda 21 happen.

So not believing what you believe makes me a commie? Regardless of one's religious affiliation, this issue is much bigger than religion. This is something we must fight, do you want to be told where to live, how to live, how many kids you're allowed to have, and where you can and cannot go? You can pray all you want that things will work out, but one thing I CAN guarantee you is that no matter who you pray to, this treaty will strip us all of any freedom we have left and make for an abhorrent existence. You want to talk about commies, this new world government would make the United States and 178 other countries the most extreme version of communism the world has ever seen. I'll be shot dead protecting myself from this worldwide organized crime syndicate before I conform to this New World Order.

Not everyone has to be a Christian. And if this is the way Christians speak, I’m glad I’m not one.

It's amazing how far out on a limb of rationalization some will go to castigate any organized attempts to undo the damage humans have done to the environment as "socialism" or the evil machinations of a one world government. At this rate, we'll get an armageddon whether there's a God or not. Sleep well knowing you're part of this problem, not it's solution.

Thank you for this article. I’ve heard bits and pieces about it on a podcast but didn’t know the depth if it’s impact. Can you provide information on how to connect and mobilize to make changes at a local level? A “where to start” kind of action plan? Thanks again.

Do you always let others do your thinking?
Start by reading the actual agreement and then decide what you want to do because the bits and pieces you've heard are the interpretations of others.

I actually just got done reading the actual Agenda 21 document, all 4 parts, all chapters. Although it is not law, it is just a list of "common goals" you can see it in our everyday lives today. Written in 1992, it is amazing what 20 years later we are looking at. Environmentalism taught in schools to our children, discussed in Part 4. Community planning, grants to "green" companies, focus on "mass transit" even exectations of a lower standard of living. ALL MENTIONED in this "list of common goals" and pushed by our presidents past and present. Not a conspiracy, it is true. Back then it was lofty ideals, but today the ball is rolling, and you can see the momentum building.

It's articles like these that make people laugh at the "Tea Party". Talk about misinformation! People, you are reading one person's interpretation of Agenda 21. If you read it honestly and don't try to assign any "hidden" meaning to it, it's really benign. And, to talk about sustainability you have to first understand what it is. This woman obviously doesn't.

The tea party is a bunch of dweebs that are under the service or are hypnotized by the economic powers in this country that are making us a 3rd world soon to become dictatorship in the service of the ultra rich that earn 50% of the income and are just 1% of the population. You tea party dweebs are beyond STUPID. Once the ultra rich get what they want, you are less than camel dung.

Just because people have more liberal view of politics doesn't make the dark or misguided, it means they think outside the box. I am a seventeen year old high school student and know that soon I will be able to vote. I have been looking at many political views in the news, media, and local government, but this article pushes me over the edge…. I'm registering democrat, or a bleeding heart as some people call it, and I'm fine with that because people are more important than money
