A U.S. Senate subcommittee will hold a hearing on Arizona’s tough immigration law on April 24. And the committee’s chairman wants Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to show up and defend herself.
New York Sen. Charles Schumer has sent Brewer a letter inviting her to the hearing of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security.
It occurs a day before the U.S. Supreme Court will hear the federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of SB 1070.
Brewer’s spokesman said that she’ll likely pass.
Brewer signed the bill into law in 2010. The Justice Department filed a lawsuit and a federal court judge issued an injunction halting many parts of the law from going into effect. The Supreme Court will hear legal arguments surrounding that injunction.
