By Mr. Curmudgeon:
Back in 2011, when the town fathers of Columbus, New Mexico, announced they were disbanding their police department, giving Luna County sheriffs sole authority to protect and defend Columbus residents, they cited cost savings as the primary reason. However, the citizens of this small New Mexico border town knew better.
A federal indictment accused 12 people of forming a criminal organization that sold weapons to Mexico’s notorious Juarez Cartel. Columbus Mayor Eddie Espinoza, Police Chief Angelo Vega and Blas “Woody” Gutierrez, a Columbus village trustee, were among the 12 named in the indictment, accused of aiding the Obama administration in its gunrunning Operation Fast and Furious.
Former Mayor Espinoza, now cooling his heels behind bars, is – like our president and his Attorney General – a lifelong and loyal Democrat.
That same year, the website Borderland Beat, that chronicles Mexico’s cartel wars, said narco-traffickers were targeting women. “… Juarez – the state of Chihuahua, where it is located, reportedly saw a record number of women murdered in 2010, with some 370 killings. The state has already seen 222 murders of women so far in 2011.”
And it got worse, “Another threat to women is posed by sex trafficking … drug trafficking organizations in Mexico have increasingly turned to this trade as an alternative revenue source in the wake of government crackdowns …,” said Borderland Beat.
In other words, the deadly war on women waged by the Juarez Cartel was aided and abetted with weapons supplied by the Obama administration just about the time Democrats opened fire on Republicans, accusing them of waging war on women by denying them free contraception. Clueless Republicans didn’t think it necessary to point out Obama and the Juarez Cartel’s real and bloody gender war to America’s suburban female voters. And the GOP paid for that foolish mistake.
While the mainstream media vaguely describe Fast and Furious as “a botched sting operation,” the collateral damage at home and in Mexico goes largely unreported. Mexicans, it appears, are only of interest to this administration provided their votes can be bought or their deaths provide a statistical sampling that leads to tighter gun laws affecting law-abiding Americans.
As the good people of Columbus, New Mexico, watch the president take the oath of office for a second time, they’ll wonder how the imperial reach of Obama’s next four years will undermine the good government of their tiny town – and how many more innocent people will die.
