For many of us; there is no other day in the calendar year, that evokes more passion, more feelings of either euphoria or depression than Christmas day.
If you are a little boy and Santa brought you that Red Rider BB gun, then you’re literally ecstatic with passion. If you are that same little boy andSanta did not bring you that (so sought after) Red Rider BB gun (because you will no doubt shoot your eye out), then you’re suffering through a moment in time that you will most likely remember the rest of your life. Don’t laugh at that last statement; many of us have one Christmas where we so desperately wanted something (as a child), did not receive it and we still harbor resentment toward Santa for that missed game, toy or train set.
Most everyone during the Christmas season suffer through a temporary spiraling down of emotions. If not for an hour, then for a day and sometimes longer. One of the biggest reasons for this is; we all have expectations of “how something or an event is to supposed to go”. It is when that event doesn’t transpire the exact way we played it out in our minds, that we become depressed. Some people have gone so far as to nearly cancel Christmas all together in their lives. This happened mostly because; year after year Christmas did not live up to their expectations.
Contrary to what Madison Avenue (and their hundreds of over priced marketing firms) wants you to think; America and the rest of the world doesn’t celebrate Christmas for the same reasons. Believe it or not, America did not have this incredible marketing effort crammed down our collective throats until fairly recently. It was actually Macy’s Department Store (remember Miracle on 34th Street from 1947?) and Coca-Cola that gave us the first big Santa Clause invasion.
To give you a glimpse into how aggressive the marketing and advertising has become to strip you of your hard-earned dollars (and impose a huge guilt trip if you don’t spend those dollars), advertising and marketing began this year on or about Halloween! The problem that many suffer (unjustly) from today is that guilt that Madison Avenue provides all of us with. “Your child won’t love anymore if you don’t purchase this $299 Smart Phone”. “Your wife won’t love you anymore if you don’t buy her this new $2,500 black diamond from Kay Jewelers”. “Your husband won’t be happy if you don’t buy him that new $45,000 Lexus SUV”. The heart wants to make your spouse happy, your child grin and squeal on Christmas morning, but is this truly the purpose and spirit of Christmas?
IS THIS REALLY WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT?
Of course not, but yet we all get caught up in the corporate version of Christmas or at least most of us do.
THIS IS WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT! GRAB THE TISSUES, THIS IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL AND ENJOY!
As for myself and my family this year, I suppose some honesty is needed here. As most of you know, I have dedicated the past 5 plus years to fighting for our freedom and liberty. This fight has been full-time and at my own expense. Due to many reasons (IE; Age-57, Political viewpoints, public persona, bad back etc..), I have not been able to regain employment at any level. Therefor, I decided to just concentrate on speaking, traveling, blogging and organizing for conservatism. So what does any of this have to do with anything? The fact is, my wife and I were only able to celebrate Christmas with a Christmas Tree and that was it. I was able to (because of a generous donor) to get her a new winter coat. That was the first new coat she had been given in over 5 years. Not dozens of gifts, gifts for our children, gifts for neighbors or other relatives. Are we sad? No!
What this inability has given us, is the reminder of what Christmas is supposed to be. The human race began giving gifts because of the “Wise-Men” showing up with gifts for the newborn savior. This tradition carried down for centuries and centuries with simplicity. The simple act of giving an orange or a home-made footstool or a handmade quilt. The tradition of cutting ones own Christmas Tree with the family was actually a celebration. The act of visiting an infirmed friend or relative was also. Mom baking fudge was a treat along with the men folk bringing home a turkey or deer they had bagged for Christmas dinner. The high-light of Christmas for the family was attending Christmas Eve services at mid-night. This was what Christmas was and is supposed to be. Christmas is a time for cherishing love, displaying love and sharing love.
Christmas is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE; MAXING OUT CREDIT CARDS, TRYING TO ONE-UP THE NEIGHBOR FOR THE MOST LIGHTS ON THE HOUSE OR FIGHTING ABOUT POLITICS WITH THAT LIBERAL UNCLE FROM SAN JOSE.
Patriot brothers and sisters; if we would simply keep that warmth that the true meaning of Christmas brings in our hearts all year-long, we could and would be the beacon of hope that so many are seeking.
Christmas is about hope! Hope that the savior will be born and he was. Christmas is about love! No greater love was given to mankind than that of God giving the earth his son to us on this day. Jesus taught mankind what true love was through his many sermons, acts of devotion and forgiveness. We should all emulate this true meaning of Christmas.
Forget the diamonds (unless it is an engagement ring), forget the I-Pads, Tablets, Computers, Cars, Smart Phones and the thousand dollar tennis bracelets.
Share a pan of fudge with a loved one. Share a Christmas carol with a neighbor and share the true meaning of Christmas by sharing yourself and your heart.
When we do Christmas the right way, there is no frustration, no guilt, no pain and no blown expectations.
Merry Christmas my fellow patriots and may the Lord richly bless each of you on this Holy Day!
