The Republican Divide on Obamacare

Wednesday evening, House Republicans made good on their campaign pledge to repeal abominable Obamacare. But the House debate against the president’s measure signals a rift within the GOP that could mean Obamacare’s continued existence even if in 2012 Obama loses the White House and Republicans become the majority in the US Senate.

The House is set for health care repeal vote on Wednesday

Washington (CNN) -- The House of Representatives is set to vote on a repeal of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul this week, fulfilling a campaign promise of congressional Republicans and setting up a clash with the White House and Senate Democrats. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has scheduled a floor debate on the measure for Tuesday and a vote on Wednesday. The new GOP majority, in keeping with its "repeal and replace" mantra, will instruct various House committees to craft alternatives to the law. "Repealing the job crushing health care law is critical to boosting small business job creation and growing the economy," Boehner wrote online Monday. The health care repeal vote had initially been scheduled for last week, but GOP leaders postponed it after the January 8 shootings in Arizona that killed six people and wounded 13, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona. The measure is expected to pass the Republican-led House, but is believed to have little chance of clearing the Democratic-controlled Senate or surviving a certain presidential veto.

Congressman Steve King Projects Repeal Vote To Pass In House Next Week

Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King is ready to return to official House business after marking the shootings in Tucson, Arizona, from the Hawkeye State. "I expect we will vote to repeal Obamacare next week," the conservative Iowan said of the House GOP, which had planned to bring a vote to the House floor this week to repeal last year's comprehensive health care reform bill. Agenda items were swiftly scrubbed from this week's calendar in the wake of Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' wounding over the weekend from the shooting spree.

Stealth Expansion of Obamacare Derailed: Medicare-paid ‘Death Counseling’ Withdrawn

Ascribing to it the worst of motives, the Obama administration tried secretly to impose costly new regulations to expand Medicare under Obamacare. And nearly got away with it. Transparency, anyone? Not, apparently, from this administration. Unbridled powers of bureaucrats to "make law" through rule-making -- in effect, by regulatory fiat -- is a scourge of our republic. Regulations abound on subjects great and small, promulgated by armies of invisible bureaucrats employed to "fill in the blanks" in loosely enacted legislation.
