Pelosi passes Boehner the gavel

The passing of the Gavel from Pelosi to Boehner is a wonderful site for...

I'm sure we all had noticed how big John Boehner's gavel was. Nancy Pelosi, who became minority leader, made a parting statement when she handed the gavel over to the newly elected speaker of the house. Nancy Pelosi said: "I now pass this gavel — which is larger than most gavels here, but the gavel of choice of Mr. speaker Bohner. I now pass this gavel and the sacred trust that goes with it to the new speaker."

A very smart speech by the new House Speaker John Boehner

If you spent the afternoon watching C-SPAN, as I did, you heard applause. A lot of it. Over and over again. No one Republican member of Congress wants to be the first to stop applauding the new speaker.
